New Wings Somatics recognizes that its work takes place on the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, the Wendat and the Mississaugas of the Credit first nation. This land is part of Treaty 13 with the Mississaugas of the Credit of the New River and part of the Dish With One Spoon Wampum. The Dish With One Spoon Wampum is an ancient agreement between the Haudenosaunee, Huron-Wendat and Anishinaabek peoples to share and care for the land and waters of what is colloquially known as the Great Lakes region. Today it is home to many indigenous people. Land acknowledgements are common practice in so called North America. They are a small and symbolic step in the practice of reconciliation.
